It le apparant on the face of it that the information to these British
creditors that payment of the amount of their debts (both to Hongkong
& Singapore Branches) could not have been promised without the full
knowledge of the Bank, These letters were signed by Mr. Peaning.
On and after September 5th (see our letter of 14th Nov)
our firm as public socountants were engaged in taking steck and
examining the sash transactions ¿e., with the object of controlling
the business so that the Government could be assured no remittances
or goods went out of the Colony,
On 29th October 1914, we were appointed Liquidators of the
business (under the Alien Enemies (Winding-us) Ordinance, 1914).
On 11th November, 1914 we acknowledged receipt of a brief
note from the Bank informing us that the goods on the Firm's premises
were under lien to you.
According to the Pass Book, after August 18th, all receipts
of the business were paid into a special "Instalment Account" with
